Recently, the steel box girder of the Taoer River Grand Bridge, the world’s largest span hybrid girder bridge, was successfully joined. The project was constructed with the involvement of China Railway Hi-Tech Industry.
The Taoer River Grand Bridge is a key control project of the Binzhou section of the G228 Dandong Expressway. It is also an important part of the national highway network connecting Dandong and Dongxing (G228). The bridge spans a total length of 4,334 meters and is built to a dual four-lane highway standard with a design speed of 80 km/h. It starts at Chengkou Town in Wudi County and ends at Chuangye Avenue in Zhanhua, serving as a crucial road link between Wudi and Zhanhua.
The main bridge features a continuous rigid frame hybrid girder design with spans of (128+338+128) meters. It is the first in China to use an inclined cross-section design for steel-concrete composite segments to address stress challenges in large spans. China Railway Hi-Tech Industry is responsible for manufacturing and installing the steel-concrete composite segments, steel box girders, bridge deck systems, and ancillary structures.
Once completed and operational, the Taoer River Grand Bridge will connect the Wudi Dongfeng Port Economic Zone and Zhanhua, reducing travel time between the two areas from 90 minutes to just five minutes. This will play a significant role in promoting integrated development within the Bohai Economic Rim and advancing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
